The trade-off is dependency. Electronic locks need batteries, circuits, sensors, and moving components to work together. Batteries drain. Keypads wear. Backup keys exist for a reason, but finding and using one under pressure is not the kind of access plan responsible gun owners want to rely on.

Electronic safes are not automatically the wrong choice. A biometric safe can make sense for a user who values multiple access options and is willing to maintain it aggressively.
